I feel like the word for me for this trip was what Donald Macphail used, "awakening". I went knowing the Lord had some things for me since my ancestry is from Scotland, and things for me to do. One of our tour partners had a word that the land was asleep; slumbering from the religious workings of traditions. While in Stornoway one night I got a scripture from Isaiah 51:9-11, "Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake as in the days of old, the generations of long ago." The song "Awake oh Israel, put off your slumber, and the truth shall set you free; for out of Zion comes your deliverer in the year of Jubilee" also ran through me all day. That is what I believe the Lord is saying to Lewis and all of Scotland. He was also saying it to me. He has awakened a love for the land and the people that they would know the God who made them, and that they would appreciate the beauty of His handiwork there. As we traveled down the roads in our bus, each curve brought out to me the Lord saying, "Oh, you liked that scene? Take a look at this one that I made!" It was awesome! My life has been forever changed.

The Lord
portrayed Scotland to me as a land full of people who have been sheep without
a shepherd. Religious leaders have not been true shepherds in this land. The
people are; however, "marked" and "owned" (like the sheep we saw everywhere)
and The Lord is raising up shepherds (like the two young pastors we were privileged
to meet - Donnie Stewart at the New Wine Church in Stornaway and Tommy MacNeil
at the Barvas church) and other equipping individuals (Catherine Brown). It
was obvious that some of the "old order" from past renewal days will serve
as fathers in the new move of God - and some, possibly, will not recognize
God in the new form in which He will manifest Himself in the coming wave of
worldwide renewal. These are exciting times and Scotland will be a strategic
location for what The Lord is about to do. For me, this seemed to be a scouting
mission and a prayer tour in the literal sense. I believe our prayer and praise
was released in every gate we toured through and will serve as an intercessory
precursor for good things to come. I believe we dealt a blow to the dominant
religious spirit and dug some wells. As a scout "sent ahead to spy out the
land" I'm sure, like me, you found it to be a land "flowing with milk and
honey" or was that cream tea, scones, butter, and jam? Whether any or all
of us are sent back to minister in the future or simply commissioned to pray
for this land, I believe we were changed and have been given a part in God's
plan for Scotland.

Rev.
Joan Ann Warnell God sent us to pray in Scotland: The town of Lewis, Scotland, The Isle of Iona and The Hebrides. Lewis, Scotland is where the revival of 1948-1952 began and every decade since has tried to no avail to begin again. As
we waited in the airport we broke the power of the spirits operating
in a nearby "meditation room" as well as hindering thoughts and words
emanating from that place. We met others we knew from the prayer journey
to Ireland, Scotland and England in April of this year at the airport
in Newark before we left for Glasgow, Scotland and had a time of prayer.
We prayed for one another that the light of our Lord Jesus Christ might
burn brightly in us as we traveled onward and that all God intended
for this prayer journey would be accomplished. It was. After landing
in Glasgow, our tour group journeyed in a small bus to lunch at Tullichewan
Hotel near Loch Lomond. |
In front
of Iona Abbey, I climbed a high mound as Holy Spirit led me and declared and
prayed again for the people and this place. Once inside the Abbey I also walked
in the presence of our Lord.
The next morning at breakfast, I met a sister from Essex, England, a general
in the army of the Lord who had joined our group. She is called to bring down
the wall in her nation against Israel. I admonished her to find the tribe
of Israel to which she belongs, and the two of us felt a divine connection
of ministry in the Spirit. Once on the road to the Hebrides Islands, Kathie
spoke over the mike that in her spirit was a warning of planned attack upon
America and called us to pray. We declared Mark 4:22 security in America over
the bridges and all other possible targets and Isaiah 54:17 and other word
of God. These evil plans would be averted because of our fervent desire and
cry for God's mercy. Kathie further commanded hidden things to be discovered
and God's enemies to be tripped up. She prayed a blanket of mercy over America
and the light of the Lord to shine forth. We prayed protection for the land
and for the minds of the people of America to refuse spreading of rumors.
Kathie came against the spirit of bad news, encouraging us to wear our gospel
boots to bring good news as we traveled to bless Scotland and in turn bless
America.
Kathie Walters informed us that Donald Macphail would meet us the next evening
(Friday) to be with us through Sunday, and that an elder from the Barvas Church
where the Hebrides Revival had broken out in 1948 would be on the bus with
us on Saturday. We drove up the mountains and into the light, all the way
to our picturesque hotel at Mallaig! Praise God.
That Thursday evening Kathie called our group together after dinner for ministry.
We were reminded that God is a covenant-keeping God, and that truth has been
a key to revival in the Hebrides - every ten years. We have to agree with
the Spirit. The old man and old mindsets and striving have to die as we fall
in love with Jesus. It's a takeover! Elitism has no place in the Body of Christ.
Submission means "you're open". Each of us is answerable to God, and God is
looking for a return on His gifts. The Free Church of Scotland did their best
to persecute and quench the 1948-1952 Hebrides revival through intimidation.
We all declared the "fresh air" and "light" in us be there for all to see
in the Hebrides Islands.
On Friday morning at breakfast we boarded the ferry to the Isle of Skye. Kathie
shared over breakfast that during the night she had felt her foot nailed to
the floor; this meant that our feet which were bringing good news would be
setting the saints we would meet free to share of revival there and out to
other places. "Our God Reigns" rose from our hearts to the Lord. We were now
in the Hebrides and we were driving through what is called the moor country.
A lady named Mary Sikorski who had been saved in 1980 came onto our bus for
a short while to tell of the Skye Revival she had experienced. "Everywhere
we went with the fragrance of the Lord." At the touch of her boot in a house,
she would feel the Spirit in mini-revival. They spoke of the Lord in their
houses, she said, the same as they did in church. They would have dreams.
"The Lord spoke to us, 'More to follow.' " They were to get rid of tradition
which they had put before the Lord.
Every day was fresh. Mary prayed with us for a fresh anointing to come there
in the north of Scotland and all the way to Europe, and for visions and
prophecies to be fulfilled. Many of us agreed in prayer further declared:
"Send Your revival in these islands. I was led to declare from that point
of the prayer journey until the end a prophetic word for all the land and
peoples who lived there saying, "God will send one more great revival." Release
was made for waves of the Spirit - the river of God - to wash down traditions,
to bypass minds and traditions, to bring back words, dreams, and visions.
Mary prayed that the gold flame a sister was seeing would come upon us - the
burning fire of God - and never go out. "Let the fire of Erin fall." One of
the brothers spoke open sky over Skye as he saw a cloud the size of a man's
hand. "Lord, release the rain. Fire, fall! Rocks, fly out!" He saw an incense
bowl being turned over once again and flames shooting down over houses, old
wineskins broken. A sister prayed that this island would transmit the power
of God on "down" - aim toward the mainland. I saw flames coming down on houses
and volleying out. Our leader commanded the wind to ignite in the right new
places and travel in the right direction. After Mary left us, we drove on.
We were bringing the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ everywhere we drove, as
flames of fire setting people free from dreariness of soul. We thanked the
Lord for the prospective sheep eating green grass; happy sheep in the sunshine,
with evil blown away. We declared the heaviness had to go. It was the day
of the summer solstice. We spoke a spirit of repentance upon America and Israel,
to the north, south, east and west. The plans of the enemy were being routed
as one of the sisters on the prayer journey saw a bomb being removed from
a red car. At Portree, our bus was placed onto a large ferry, which was to
take the bus and us to the Isle of Harris and Lewis. Two who were with me
heard over all the noise of the people on the ferry one of the ferry engines
went out, so we commanded the engine to be fixed in Jesus' Name and calling
angels with shields to protect us. Another spoke confusion to the enemy.
We next reached the Isle of Harris and Lewis (the Outer Hebrides). I blessed
each home with, "May you know Jesus." Once we left Tarbert, we realized that
we had entered a desolate, rocky, rugged, mountainous land devoid of tree,
shrub, and all but a very few sheep. The road was narrow and full of bumps.
Our sound system was playing a "Glory" recording to the dark, depressing surroundings.
A brother remarked that the telephone poles here praised the Lord (with their
three forks). Isaiah 29:9-14 was spoken over us - that we come to a people
drunk with a religious spirit of slumber, with redemptive purpose for their
restoration. We would bring new wine by modeling humility, and would recover
old wine. A scribe of the Kingdom brings forth both the old and the new. At
the Cabarfeidh Hotel in Stornoway we settled in for three days. As we were
awaiting our dinner, a local wedding party complete with kilts paraded through
the lobby, as a sign to us of our wedding to the saints who lived in that
area of the Hebrides.
What a joy at last to meet Donald and Maraig Macphail at coffee! Donald as
a sixteen-year-old lad was mightily used by God to pray during the revival
of 1948-52, and here he was now with Maraig on extended leave from their ministry.
This humble couple shared with our tour group. Brother Donald reported that
in that revival, fifteen percent (30 of 200 people) responded to the tenth-day
breakthrough call to prayer - in the rural villages, especially on the west
side. Brother Donald presently reads and teaches Messianic scriptures through
the year. (Why did the revival of 1948-52 dissipate? Because satan stood up
against the people, to make them lose their blessings and because of religious
persecution.) He told us how Duncan Campbell as a discipler to him had prayed
with him three days, then released him to the Spirit. He had been part of
a house group five years, which was then closed by the local church under
control of elders to bring them "under the fabric." When Duncan Campbell said
he was "walking with God", that meant he was responding to God, filled with
the Spirit. Brother Campbell had prophetic input if you were bonded to him.
Once Brother Donald said "no" to fulfilling his vows to the Lord, went into
darkness, felt pressure on his neck, went to his mother and cried to the Lord.
After turning to say "yes", he attended three Bible colleges, excelled in
Islamic studies, and became a missionary. He won favor with governmental officials
there! "One can know when God is moving," he told us. A lot of people live
on the back of memories. Old manna stinks. He spoke of how his father in the
faith, Duncan Campbell, went to Martin Lloyd-Jones and was told to get through
to God in three days. Brother Campbell walked through the park with the revelation,
"I must be a baby." During the Hebrides Revival which began in 1948, at 6pm
an elder of the Free Church of Scotland would mount #30 croft to blow a shofar
to get ready for prayer. What affected Brother Donald most then was the conversion
of the young people in the secondary schools. They would be singing new songs
at 3am. "My sheep hear My voice and I know them" was their frequent theme.
Young men gathered at the bohan to drink were caught up in the "epidemic".
Brother Donald said ten to twelve years ago, some children experienced shekinah,
bent over and speaking significant things. What we need, especially here,
is to create new wineskins. The Lord will indicate where He will bring a move
of God. Brother Donald went on: I realized how impoverished I was - desperate
humility before God. Bishop John M. McKay of the Church of Scotland was open
to allow Duncan Campbell to preach in their building. Yet tradition said (1)
we can discipline you 2) teaching in your group may be in error (3) Your free
will offering is very low. A piece of advice for our walk with God - ask for
grace to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. I am to work the works
of Him Who sent me. Lead me into a work of Your Spirit, O Lord. Once you act
in God, He does His work. Get caught up in what God is doing, and wait on
God until it happens. Boldness says, "God, You have to do it." My intimacy
with God is personal. With awakening, there comes judgment from God. It is
serious. John 14:14 He who loves Me and keeps My Word - I will come to Him.
He may move us to where He is moving. (For the Macphails that was opening
up the Arabic Bible. In 1995 they followed God's leading to Innis where they
were launched in a meeting of ex-Catholics. In 1998 their conviction was to
go back to Yemen, with no support from America or Europe. They were supplied
by Muslims who, like Aquila and Priscilla, saw how the Macphails live. University
students knock at their gate to be baptized behind high walls. They lead "awakening
meetings".) In closing this very special evening, one of our brothers on the
prayer journey posed the question: To who are you loyal? A system, or the
Lord?
Saturday morning as we boarded our bus for a tour of the countryside surrounding
Stornoway, Brother Macphail was there to greet us! We drove to pick up Donald
Smith from his home. We
drove on to several of the churches and cottages (ancient wells) where God
had moved so mightily in 1948-52. One was of the Free Church of Scotland,
where during revival as many people worshipped outside as were inside. The
Spirit of God closed down the dance hall and drinking houses then. Hard sinners
were saved. To
think how much they had been given with the great revival and how they lost
it seemed so sad to me. When we reached Kell village, we bound the dumb and
deaf spirit from all the area and commanded the people to wake up in
Jesus Christ's Name. We claimed the Churches of Scotland for Jesus and saw
in the Spirit everyone waiting to get in, with prayer meetings in the houses
everywhere once again. At the Port of Ness, Donald and Donald told us of a
wild teenager named Mary Morrison who had experienced real conversion, leading
to two years of Bible college and ministry with her husband. Isaiah 40:31
They that wait upon the Lord shall be intertwined with (twisted with)..."and
they shall mount up with wings of eagles..." One sister began to share a study
of eagles, she said, they wait for an upswing after they cleanse themselves.
They are visionary. They take their feathers and oil them with an oil gland
in the mouth. Or they pull out their feathers on a rock and rest on a rock
(The Rock) until the feathers regrow. If they are taken captive, they may
become depressed and die. Our guides for the day resumed: A lady named Mary
McLean in the area had prophesied World War II before it started. In the revival
a road we were traveling had been full of people for three to four miles singing
and praying! They turned the clocks around the other way. In the cottage meetings
they sealed the buildings. No one cared to ask what time it was. For 26 years
there was no crime in the area. Before that, six people were converted right
at the police station, as prophesied by two praying sisters. Our sister from
England told us that a branch of her ancestors had bought the Isle of Lewis
in 1841 "to plant the Word of the Lord"! So when one of our brothers was led
by Holy Spirit to blow his shofar at croft #30 this day to call the people
to new awakening, Maureen braved the rain with him to reclaim the land. A
sister who Holy Spirit moved upon as a gatekeeper to the Celtic Nations, also
spoke freedom. I declared: "Holy Spirit, blow through this land. Deaf and
dumb spirit, be gone. We claim this land as Your inheritance, Lord. You love
this land."
Our next stop was
at the Blackhouses at Gearrannen near Arnot. These were long thatched houses
shaped roughly elliptically and constructed of earth between stones. (All
trees had been cut down by the Vikings centuries ago, since the King of Norway
owned the Hebrides until 1263.) As late as the 1960s, people of the Hebrides
lived in these blackhouses, often with their cattle. The women wore boots,
and a fire would be lit when needed in the middle of the floor. There in one
of these dwellings we found postcards and booklets for sale.
As we traveled on, Brother Donald Macphail was singing what had been new songs
from the 1948-52 revival in Gaelic. The music was in a minor key and sounded
somewhat like Greek Orthodox chanting. We were told that the Celts came from
Galatia and had five castes: the king, his people, the druids, warriors, and
servile people. We passed by a large pharmaceutical factory. Electricity came
there in the 1950s. We then drove to the famous Callanish Standing Stones
dating from about 3000 BC The stones are set deep in the earth in the form
of a cross, but with double legs on one side. At this "high place" where we
saw a number of druids in rain jackets actively pursuing their rituals on
this day after the summer solstice, we paused to worship Jesus, King of Kings
and Lord of Lords. During the revival in Barvas, angels were heard singing.
White doves were seen on people's heads. Once a whole group at one time saw
a vision of a ship on dry ground. Lights were seen descending on houses, and
others felt the presence of the Lord in fields as they journeyed to Holy Spirit
meetings. Brother Donald Smith made the statement, "This is the foundation
rock of the world."
The next day, Sunday, everything was closed except the hotel and the churches.
With expectation we drove to New Wine Church to meet Pastor Donnie Stewart.
We were welcomed warmly and exhorted to be alive to God Who is looking for
a habitation. David Walters spoke from Matthew 21:15-16 to the total church
body before he took the children out for a time. He admonished us not to bring
toys and games or coloring books to church, because this is (to the children)
your church. Kathie Walters then brought the word that living in the supernatural
is our inheritance; we are to live in it, by the Spirit. Angels sing to us,
often when we wake up. The fragrance of honey was in the room as Kathie ministered.
2 Cor. 3 Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty -- from the penalty
of sin, the power of sin and the presence of sin. Become Jesus conscious,
and take His boldness out to the streets. Kathie shared a vision of a boulder
of doubt waiting to be moved from a cave full of treasure, which is Christ
in you. Your faith is effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing that
is in you. Kathie finished ministering, Donald Macphail went to the altar
and begin to speak: There is a turning away of hearts in the western world
to icons. God wants to use you. In Isaiah God invites us to spend time with
Him. After disobedience, there may be a cutoff in hearing. Continue to hear
Him. Cry, "Father, I'm calling on You." He wants us to come into this covenant.
Ask that He let us into what He's doing. He tells us that He will show us
Himself. Make a tabernacle with Him. Take your tent and altar to where He
wants it. Say, "Lord, I don't have it. But You do. Allow me in on the work
of Your Spirit." After our tour group had enjoyed a delicious lunch served
to us by our brothers and sisters at New Wine Church, Brother Macphail gave
to himself to personal prophecy over all of us as we were seated in twos before
him. At last we were to visit the Barvas Church of Scotland where the 1948-52
revival centered! When the tall wooden doors there were locked with a thud
promptly at 6pm, young Rev. Tommy MacNeil began the service based upon Psalm
133 and Ephesians 4. Put off the old man, he admonished us, and desire to
please God. Look at Jesus, at what He wants - holy and righteous lives - and
be transformed. Little mention was made, however, of the enabling work of
Holy Spirit. When the service in the sanctuary was concluded, all were invited
to tea and pastries in the fellowship hall. Our group brought life with some
uplifted arms as we sang together for our hosts, "Shout to the Lord, all the
earth, let us sing! Power and majesty, praise to the King! Mountains bow down,
and the seas will roar at the sound of Your Name etc." This was the most victorious
song I believe they have heard in years. In the morning I prayed in the town
center of Stornoway then returned to the bus with a prayer burden for these
islands. Brother Donald Macphail had come to shake hands in final impartation
to each one of us. Your grace, O Lord, is beyond measure! The next morning,
our bus was driving through lush green mountain roads when suddenly through
the rain the Lord gave us sight of a full rainbow arc over a lake to our right
that I was the first to see and it gave me joy! His promise to us was sealed!
We again declared the Lordship of Jesus Christ over all the land through which
we were traveling - beautiful scenery with ski slopes and waterfalls to our
left. A sister then gave a brief revelation on what covenant means to the
Scots. In the sixteenth century Scottish saints did not accept their earthly
king as head of the Church, only Christ. Those saints who did not attend church
on Sunday were hunted down. Many held hillside meetings, and some were tied
to the stake in the ocean before the tide would come in to drown them. Many
were martyred. One martyr before being hanged cried, "The Covenant shall be
for Scotland's revival!" So to Scots the covenant means God's covenant with
us and the covenant they made together that Christ alone is Head of the Church.
Kathie Walters related to us a dream she had experienced while she was in
the United States. She saw a group. One shot an arrow, which traveled far
to a left bottom corner of a rectangle, then exploded in fire. Then she saw
a thin line of fire spread to the center of the rectangle, creating an immense
explosion until all the rectangle was on fire. She and Maureen then agreed
that the rectangle if turned to the vertical position as in the British Isles
would place the arrow on the Isle of Lewis. Maureen interpreted that this
is about the world. The Lord is sending people back to their roots to bless
their nations. Our bus had now reached its destined stop in Edinburgh. My
divine appointment was to be at the John Knox house, which dates from the
1500s. I walked straight to the large second-floor room where documents of
his writings were displayed and sat down in the one chair there. For one hour
electricity charged through my body! My prayer for an impartation of John
Knox's boldness was being granted! An amethyst ring I had purchased on the
Royal Road for very few pounds Holy Spirit said was to remind me of this milestone
day. When we returned to the bus, sisters came to me for an impartation to
each of them of this new boldness I had received. So much was done in the
spiritual realm and all I can say is All glory be to God!

I got a reality
check while in Scotland. Many Christians live on the edge of the supernatural
walking gingerly along a fence between it and its earthly parallel. They can
see over both sides simultaneously; this is the appeal. But His kingdom is
greater than that which we subject ourselves to. The Lord gave me a little
push while in Scotland and I fell into Him like Pollyanna. Now, I am not afraid
to go when God says go. I am not afraid to look someone in the eye with ferocious
love and prophesy to them. I am not afraid to ask someone in the grocery store
if they know Jesus loves them. Above all, I am not afraid to be high on the
Holy Ghost while people look at me funny because I know that they just want
what I have. Their just jealous because my daddy made the whole world and
I have a husband that attends to my every need and He tells me I'm beautiful
all the time. So there. That's what my Jesus did for me!

The most
delicious and wonderful time I spent was in Scotland with the Lord Jesus Christ
as the head and us His body all in one accord. He taught how not to judge,
how to pray, how to watch, how to listen, how to forgive, how to love, how
to give, how to laugh, how to be filled, how to walk in His glory, how to
except, how to rest during the winepress. He gave and gave on that trip. The
lands, the waters, the hills, the people, the daisies, the sheep, the singing,
the desserts with coffee in the parlor, the ferries, the rocks, and the momma
duckie too. Laughter, Joy, anointing beyond anything I have ever in my life
encountered before and Joy, Joy, Joy. The aroma of you, oh, Lord Jesus. Iona,
Oban, Sky, Barra, and Mull places I so know I will return to in the future.
But, let me tell you about the love I received in expressions so intoxicating
I can never put into words what it was like. The joy was exceedingly abundant.
Praise Jesus.
Exceedingly blessed,
Submitted faithfully
in Christ
